There are several types of Ikat used throughout Indonesia. We use the method commonly known as Wrap Ikat. It is most closely associated with what we know as Tie Dye. This method of dying has been a part of Indonesian culture for centuries.
Material is gathered or rolled and tied with resistant fiber such as waxed cotton string, palm-leaf fibers or now, plastic raffia. The fabric is then emersed into dye to create beautiful patterns.
